For many shop operators, accessibility is mandatory. In Europe, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) has been in force since June 28, 2025. It requires companies to offer certain digital products and services in an accessible way, including many online shops.

  • Navigation: Categories and menus must be logically structured and fully operable without a mouse. For example, using only a keyboard.

  • The checkout: The shopping cart and checkout process can often only be customised to a limited extent. This makes it essential to verify that the chosen system complies with legal requirements such as the EAA.
