AC Monza chooses Eye-Able for digital accessibility

The Italian football club takes a structured approach to accessibility: not just regulatory compliance, but an ongoing process that improves the fan experience and widens the audience it can reach.

IMMAGINE

One year on from the European Accessibility Act coming into force, digital accessibility has become a concrete concern for companies across every sector — including sports organisations, which run complex digital ecosystems: content sites, ticketing platforms, online stores, mobile apps.

Associazione Calcio Monza has chosen to address this in a structured way, adopting the Eye-Able platform to monitor and continuously improve its digital assets.

Why a football club invests in accessibility

For AC Monza, the decision isn't only about meeting regulatory requirements. It's about the relationship with its fans.

A barrier-free online experience means more people can follow the club's activities, buy match tickets, browse the official store and access content and information independently. In an industry where fan engagement is one of the most valuable assets, accessibility meaningfully widens the potential audience — with commercial benefits alongside the social ones.

It's a shift from a defensive approach, focused on avoiding penalties, to a strategic one, where accessibility becomes part of service quality.

The regulatory context: what the European Accessibility Act requires

The EAA (EU Directive 2019/882, transposed into Italian law through Legislative Decree 82/2022) extends digital accessibility obligations to the private sector. It covers companies offering digital products and services — websites, e-commerce, mobile apps, banking services, e-books — with micro-enterprises as the only exemption.

For a sports organisation, this means ticketing, online merchandising and digital fan services must meet the technical requirements set out in the EN 301 549 standard.

A club with an innovation-driven strategy

Founded in 1912, Associazione Calcio Monza is a long-standing name in Italian football and a point of reference for its local area. Since 2026 the club has been owned by US fund Beckett Layne Ventures, with a strategy built around innovation, growth and inclusion.

The accessibility project sits within that wider transformation: building a more open digital ecosystem, where inclusion is a component of innovation rather than a separate chapter.

How the project works: three phases

1. Technical audit

Automated analysis, manual testing and user testing identify the barriers actually present across the club's digital services. This is backed by continuous monitoring and reporting, so accessibility is measured over time rather than captured once.

2. Remediation

The platform doesn't stop at flagging issues: it enables the club to act on them, retaining autonomy and control over the process. AI-based features speed up the resolution of the most common recurring issues, freeing technical resources for the structural work that requires dedicated design.

3. Compliance and legal requirements

Finally, the platform provides the tools to document, monitor and govern compliance over time, including technical and legal obligations. This is the phase that turns accessibility from a one-off project into an ongoing process.

A comment from Eye-Able Italia

"Sport has an extraordinary power to bring people together around a shared passion. Today, though, inclusion also runs through the digital world: making sure online content and services are accessible to everyone isn't just an increasingly central regulatory requirement — it's a choice about social responsibility. I was born and raised in Brianza, so I'm particularly proud that a club like Monza can show, with Eye-Able's technology, how innovation, accessibility and compliance can move forward together, creating real value for the club, for its fans and for the wider community."

Lorenzo Scumaci, CEO of Eye-Able Italia

A model others can follow

With this project, AC Monza sends a message that reaches well beyond the club itself: accessibility isn't a matter for technical teams or compliance departments alone. It's a strategic lever for building a more inclusive, modern and open experience.

It's a model that applies to any organisation with a direct digital relationship with its audience — from sport to retail, from financial services to travel.
